Volunteer Befriender - Dementia Family Support Service (East Doncaster)

Choices4Doncaster is working in partnership with Doncaster Council and other providers to offer a befriending service in the local community supporting families living with Dementia.

We are looking for compassionate and friendly people to join our team of voluntary befrienders to provide support to families in the East of Doncaster.

This is a rewarding role in which you will be supporting vulnerable people, and will have the opportunity to develop valuable skills and widen your own social circle.

As a volunteer befriender you will:

  • Provide companionship and conversation

  • Support individuals to maintain hobbies & interests

  • Assist people to access the local area

  • Signpost to other services where appropriate.

We will need you to:

  • Be friendly with an interest in others

  • Be a good listener

  • Be reliable

  • Work in a sensitive and caring manner, with people from a variety of backgrounds

  • Be able to use your own initiative and work unsupervised

  • Commit to support for a minimum of 2 hours each week for 10 weeks

In exchange, we will provide:

  • Regular support and supervision

  • Reimbursement of travel expenses

  • A reference to future prospective employers

  • Regular opportunities to update us and ensure you are enjoying volunteering with Choices4Doncaster

Please note: Befriending is a form of social support, not a healthcare assistant role, and specifically excludes any personal care tasks.
